 Cup of Wisdom

What does productivity mean to you?

It has weighed more heavily on my mind lately, especially because I currently can do less than usual, due to health reasons. Times are a little harder than I am used to. This period is more challenging for me to accept and navigate, because my productivity level has dropped, and my mind connects productivity with self-worth.

How helpful is this notion? It is not.

I have come to realize new things over the past months.

Some of this knowledge might be valuable to remember when being hard on yourself, which can be something that most of us are prone to doing.

  • None of us have an unlimited energy source, strength, and potential. I have found it very useful to remember this. Reminding myself of it has calmed down my ambition to pursue or accomplish currently unviable goals.

  • While respecting the above, I have realized that waiting to work on something I love is not making me less productive. It is only making me pause and take care of myself more efficiently to be more productive in the future.

  • While I was being self-critical and overly hard on myself due to not being able to be as productive as I would like to be at the moment, I created a bit of an angry environment around myself, and this certainly helped nobody

  • Since letting go of my overly ambitious expectations of myself for the time being due to good reasons, I have started feeling peaceful and happy, so it is beneficial to be objective no matter what our desires are

  • Being hard on yourself in situations that are out of your control, creates challenges that only add to frustrations

  • I am using my energy, potential, abilities, and strength on things that matter now, and to heal. Once this cycle is complete and I feel better, I will be more than ready to pursue what I currently CAN plan and devise in my mind.

  • You can always plan and take small steps

  • Do what you can at the moment and be kind to yourself in the process, no matter what causes you to be less productive

  • Give yourself way more credit than you already are and celebrate everything you are doing, because chances are, you are doing way more than a limited source of energy, stamina, and strength allows you to.

  • Also, provide yourself with respite and rest, and remember to move one step at a time, no matter how big or small the steps are.

  • Practice gratitude for all of the small things that you can accomplish daily!

  • Say, thank you for having a warm meal, a nice bed to sleep in, and a roof over your head.
